Today, after an intense workout I witnessed a wonderful sight. Jersey City’s Farmers’ Market! I’ve been waiting since November for it’s return. And I picked up fixings for dinner: Purple spring onions, tomatoes, fresh peas, a baguette, buffalo mozzarella, and strawberries. I grilled slices of the baguette, chopped up a tomato and a purple spring onion, parboiled a few peas, and mixed everything together with the mozzarella.
My love affair with pimentón (Spanish Paprika) continues. Two weeks ago, I used it in a traditional fried chicken recipe: And I have been debating ever since whether I should post the recipe, because once I prepared it, I realized that the amount of lard, and time commitment would make this dish a once a year affair. Don’t tell my mother, but frozen mixed vegetables were one of the things I hated most as a child. While there were benefits (they were cheap and rather colorful), there was also one major drawback (they tasted like the plastic bag they came in). And really, is there anything quite as terrible tasting as a frozen lima bean? I can’t think of anything. (Feel free to comment or email me if you think there is something worse. If I agree, I’ll do a follow-up post.) So after many, many meals involving mixed vegetables, I devised a solution.
The day after the Great Flood of 2010, I needed a quick and easy dinner to cheer me up (my roommate and brother, too). I made us the following recipe. It’s absolutely fantastic!
Since a few folks have asked me, and I haven’t posted my own tutorial on how to truss a chicken, I thought I would post an informative from Chow. It takes just about a minute.
