Quicker, Better, Cheaper – A Confession
a single chef was down last summer. I’m sorry!

Last Sunday, my friend Erich invited me to celebrate Oktoberfest at the Indian Road Cafe. It was a little later than all of the other Octoberfest’s, and had a Halloween theme!
On Saturday morning at the crack of dawn I woke Sean up and we headed to the flower district: I, for a good deal on beautiful flowers for my friend Ardie’s baby shower, and Sean for the photo-op I promised would be spectacular. And it was! Walls and walls of flowers!
I’ve been traveling a lot, but a few weeks ago I revisited my Shrimp Basil Ginger Curry Recipe and I made this instead: Mussels, with Basil and Ginger Curry. I marvel at how the same ingredients can taste and look so different with the substitution of the main ingredient.
Last weekend Sean and I visited our friends Carri and Ted at their fabulous little beach house on Cape May! I brought them a blackberry and blueberry crumb cake. (Will be posting that recipe soon. Perfect for brunch!) The beach house is named Pinky, and it has views of the most perfect sunset.
My friend Sara gave me a few more photos from her party. My goodness we were tired, but we had so much fun: Me with the two Nicks. Aren’t they handsome fellows?
For some reason I’m exhausted so I can’t post a recipe, but I can post some pretty photos. Prepared today: Spinach, Beet and Crispy Shallot Salad with a Marsala Wine Vinaigrette. And a Traditional Egg Salad Sandwich with Bacon (ah, bacon).
It all started a few weeks ago during the Lost Series Finale: I was distracted and burned my forearm on a pot that was resting against a cast iron skillet. I was making tacos. Rushing. I didn’t realize the pot was so close to the skillet. The result was a seared forearm. It was pretty bad. People teared up when they looked at it. Tons of pain and suffering followed. I joke it still wasn’t as bad as the Lost finale, which left me wondering why I had invested 120 hours of my time in a television show. But I digress.
